Root Canals

If you need to get a root canal in Toronto, we perform root canals at all five of our locations.  We have the latest in root canal instrumentation to make your root canal a painless procedure. In the event you require specialist treatment, you may be referred to one of our recommended specialists – your dentist will organize a referral for you.

What is a Root Canal?

Every one of your teeth has a series of roots, inside which there are canals containing nerves. A root canal procedure removes the inside of the tooth – the pulp and nerves. The pulp contains nerves and blood vessels and helps to keep teeth alive. We recommend a root canal when the pulp is infected or damaged, or to treat fractured or cracked teeth that expose the pulp or if it’s badly decayed. When the pulp of the tooth is damaged or infected, it causes severe pain. But, if it isn’t treated promptly, it can also lead to an abscess.

We use root canals to treat or save damaged, infected, or necrotic (dead) teeth. We prefer to save a tooth rather than extract it. Saving the tooth prevents surrounding teeth from drifting into the missing gap, which would otherwise require a replacement such as an implant, partial bridge, or denture to do. It’s more cost-effective, too!

Think you need a root canal? If you think you may need a root canal procedure, it’s important to see your dentist and get a thorough assessment. Your dentist will advise you and let you know the options available, including if you can have the root canal at our clinic or if you need a specialist.
